Imagine the situation: before the arrival of guests at the New Year’s feast a few hours, but you are dancing in the kitchen with pots and pans, bowing oven and fridge, and a time for you to fly just the speed of light. Naturally flip through the book with recipes during cooking – lesson distracting and dangerous – the book may be dropped into a container for cooking, it can be dirty, etc. Smartphone or tablet to scrub the stains still possible, but from a pot of boiling broth intact unlikely. And certainly there is the idea: here you could something remotely switch pages without touching the tablet / smartphone / laptop !. And imagine possible. It’s enough to use such technology as NailO. This product development team of scientists and students of MIT is a tiny trackpad, which is applied on the nail of the index finger.
In spite of its miniature NailO contains a battery, capacitive sensors, a microcontroller chip for wireless communication via Bluetooth and capacitive touch chip. As this development was created on the basis of the idea of decorative stickers that are Asian women. Researchers also suggest to develop a removable decorative membrane, which could be adjusted according to the user equipment.
To use the device, the user must click on the nail for two to three seconds. Then, the similarity of the touchpad or mouse, you can move the index finger to the side, forward and backward, to flip through the pages, and to select an element, you need to again hold your index finger on top of the nail, on your smartphone or tablet.
We are working on a new prototype with smaller, but more on the capacity of the battery, as well as more advanced sensor technology to identify the user’s movements and intentions.
