A team of scientists from Zurich showed quadrocopters that can accelerate to 55 km / h. In the experiment on the Flying Machine Arena drones recorded on the ropes, flying around a stationary support, demonstrating the wonders of flying. In addition, high-speed quadrocopters very effectively slowed down and dispersed.
Scientists Maximilian Schulz, Augulyaro Federico (Federico Augugliaro), Ritz Robin (Robin Ritz) and Raffaello D’Andrea (Raffaello D’Andrea) of the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control (Zurich, Switzerland) demonstrated how quadrocopters change the height, accelerated and stopped, change the direction of movement. In addition, they carry out joint maneuvers of acceleration and braking.
Management quadrocopters performed using motion capture system. According to Maximilian Schulz (Maximilian Schulz), one of the authors of the experiment, 1.7 m long cables that drones were fixed on a support, is overloaded in excess of 13 g due to the centrifugal force.
Motion capture system used in the experiment can manage multiple objects, and its capacity is 200 frames per second. Objects can move in space at a speed of 10 m / s, and hence the accuracy of fixing the displacement of 5 cm (position change of the object between two consecutive frames). The information is analyzed, which allows the system to predict the future movement of the object. Wirelessly control unit sends commands quadrocopters on which are installed on-board computers and sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers.
Schultz noted that glamor experiment could be improved by measuring the force in the cables, as well as installing a quadrocopters components that implement light and sound effects. The experimental stand research team plans to present at IROS 2015 (International Conference of intelligent robots and systems), which will be held in Hamburg from September 28 to October 2.
